What's the deal with the Rifle Range? I don't want to get shot.

In days of yore, when pilots were really hairy and flew gliders made out of bamboo and offcuts from their flared trousers, there really was a Rifle Range in the bottom landing field at Mere. It closed long, long ago, but legend has it that if there's any hint of West in the breeze and you're getting low on the ridge out front, you may hear the distant echoes of rifle shots warning you to keep high and out of the rotor.
